Welcome to our monthly cannabis market overview.
We look at five key metrics from the previous month to provide you with a pulse check on legal cannabis markets. The quick read will present data on total sales, year-over-year growth, basket count, and more. You'll find a few shoutouts for brands & companies that achieved something noteworthy as well. We're starting with 9 markets for now, and are working hard to add more to the monthly overview throughout 2020.
Metric Definitions
- Total sales = the total amount of sales for the month.
- YoY sales growth = calculates the percentage change in total sales from the same month last year.
- Basket count = is the total amount of transactions for the month.
- Average basket = total revenue divided by the total number of transactions.
- Brand concentration = is the % of the market that the top 10 brands make up (in terms of sales dollars). EX: in CA in Dec 2019 the top 10 brands held 32% market share.

The Alberta Market
Everie ranked number 1 within the beverages category in AB so far in 2020, with 26% market share and close to $700K in sales. Diving further into the tea segment of beverages Everie currently dominates with 65% market share.
The British Columbia Market
Redecan ranked number 2 within the edibles category in BC so far in 2020, with 22% market share and sales of $1.1 million. Foray’s edible sales are mixed between 2 segments; chocolates (64%) and chews (36%). In addition to edible sales Foray’s also makes another $820K from the Vapor Pen category in BC.
The California Market
Sublime’s average item price is only $11.23 but saw 38% growth from June to July this year, unlike the decline the majority of the infused pre roll brands saw in CA. It is also dominating the infused pre roll segment in CA being the top brand in sales and taking 30% of the market share year to date.
The Colorado Market
I'm a sucker for sparkling water! Oh Hi is currently ranked number 7 in sales year to date ($323K) across all beverage brands. Oh Hi has grown close to 4 times as much comparing sales performance this July to last July.

The Nevada Market
First thing about Haha to note is its fun, crisp, and clean packaging! Since they were introduced in December of 2019, they have sold $2.9 million with only 7 gummy products. Year to date they are now ranked number 2 in the overall edibles category in NV.
The Oregon Market
Dr. Jolly’s has products within 6 out of 9 of Headset’s categories but the majority of their sales in 2020 (83%) have come from concentrates. Within concentrates, their top selling segment is wax and has brought in $3.9 million year to date with a large assortment of 200+ unique products.
The Washington Market
Juicy Joints stands out because they rank 5th in sales (a total of $2.4 million so far in 2020) within the WA preroll category but only have 36 distinct products when their competition sells well over 100+ products. Diving a step further, Juicy Joints owns 10.5% of the infused pre-roll market within WA.
