Winter weather & Eastern Massachusetts cannabis sales
On January 29, Boston was hit with about 23 inches of snow, making it the seventh largest snowstorm in the city’s history. To prepare, many Bay Staters went to the cannabis shops to stock up for the storm. When we look at cannabis stores across Eastern Massachusetts on the day of the storm (Saturday 1/29), we see that sales were up +65% compared to the last Saturday of January in 2021. Over the next two days, it seems like consumers enjoyed the two feet of snow on the ground by staying home with the cannabis that they had purchased. Median sales on Sunday 1/30 were 81% lower than last year and 42% lower on Monday (both in comparison to the same day of the week in 2021).
